Wanna See Something Cool? Pic of Martin Luther King, Jr. the day he crossed ALPHA PHI ALPHA FRATERNITY, INC!

Bro. Martin Luther King, Jr., (bottom far right)

Boston University

Sigma Chapter

Line #5

Spring 1952

May 13, 1952

I have been searching for a picture of my frat brother, MLK, in a picture with paraphnelia on or just throwing up the sign or something and I finally found one. Then I emailed some of my chapter's brothers for more information conerning him and Alpha. So my bro, Parker, replied with all of the info about where and when he crossed. I said I gotta post it!

Look at these brothers! They are clean! Bro. King had to be like 18 when he crossed. Look at 'em cheesin.' He looks so excited! Wow! I feel so proud right now, just knowing that he and I have something so dear to us in common. It means a lot to me to know that Alpha has impacted our lives and had a big hand in grooming us to be the men we've come to be. Absolutely amazing!

Looking at Bro. MLK smile so proudly makes me recollect the feelings I had when I crossed. Sharing something so dear to me with the man who, without a doubt, is one of the main reasons African Americans are accepted the way we are today is just...uplifting!

To be an Alpha Man!

Why I Write: I know that's WRITE!

I have many reasons for why I write...and maybe if I share with you the reasons why I write...you'll get inspired...to write! I write to express my feelings...because...I feel I write better than I speak. OK, I said it! Writing allows me to think before I speak. You will never read the sound "um" in my writing...unless I ask you to edit one of my rough drafts and you see a word, phrase, or sentence with a line through it. I write because I can utilize tools like a thesaurus to find a better words to use to make me sound even more intelligent. You do it too when you right! :) I write to make room for more thoughts and ideas. I wrote a poem that spoke to this. Get inspired!

"My mind is a canister filled with ink/ My thoughts take a timid dip the moment I think of my potential/ The pen is the preferred utensil/ The use of a pencil would lead to the temptation to erase the tread marks of my thoughts/ I cannot risk forgetting the lessons that I was taught"

Why I Write: Writing is a "Precious" gift from God!

I have many reasons for why I write...and maybe if I share with you the reasons why I write...you'll get inspired...to write! I write because "Precious" wrote. I write because "Blu Rain" saw fit that Clarice wrote on a daily basis...even when she didn't feel like writing. I've been writing since I was young but I continue to write because of such inspirations as "Precious". I write because I CAN read and write! I write because you are reading what I'm writing and I will continue to write...even if you don't leave a comment, lol. I write because Sapphire felt the need to write the book, "Push," that inspired the movie, "Precious". You see, it's all about inspiration! Get inspired!!!

Daily Word: Are you taking God for granted?

Some of us live our lives in a constant state of fear. We don't go anywhere or do anything because we're sure doom and gloom is just waiting for us. Others walk through life doing whatever we want...laughing, carefree and having a good ole time, without a care in the world. Then there are those of us who, for reasons that are unknown to us, live in relative calm all the time...seemingly unaware of our own fragile existence. No matter how we live our lives, one thing is true for all of us, were it not for the grace of God, many of us would be dead as a direct result of our own idiotic behavior. We have no idea the world of trouble we would be in if God chose to remove His protective arms from around us and really allow Satan to get at us. God's love still stands even when all else has fallen. DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR GRANTED!

2 Corinthians 1:9
We should not trust in ourselves, but in God.

Daily Word: Sometimes God answers our prayers before we finish praying!

At one time or another, we've all prayed to God about something. Sometimes God answers our prayers before we finish praying. At other times His answer is slow in coming...or it may not come at all...or it may come when we least expect it. When we pray, we want God to answer us immediately, but often times He has something else in mind. Whatever the case may be, we have to be patient and wait on Him. It's not about what we want at any given time. IT'S ABOUT WHAT GOD WANTS FOR US AND FROM US. God intends to change our hearts, not just our circumstances. He could very easily fix any problems we may have or give us what we want when we want it. But then we would not 1.) learn the lessons He's trying to teach us or 2.) mature into who we are meant to be. If we watch, wait, listen, learn and obey, we may find that God's answers to our prayers may exceed our expectations altogether!

Isaiah 64:1
Oh, that You would rend the heavens! That You would come down!

Daily Word: Are you patient enough to wait on the Lord?

We have become a society that does not enjoy waiting. We want instant gratification in every area of our lives. The Lord wants us to enjoy the abundant life He intended for us. But the key is we have to wait on Him. We tend to rush through life without stopping to really evaluate our activities. Sometimes in our haste to achieve our goals, we race ahead of God. If we find ourselves taking the lead, we need to stop and re-think our position. We are in charge of nothing...He leads, we follow. Part of God's teaching and restorative process is to slow us down and make us listen to Him. When we slow down and seek His will, He will reveal His plans for us. However, waiting requires us to cease our own pursuits and give God our complete attention. And as we wait on Him, God will remind us of our utter dependence upon Him and His strength. Be patient.....

Psalm 40:1

I waited patiently on the Lord; and He inclined to me and heard my cry.

Daily Word: Have you fallen to temptation lately...me too!

Those who know have heard say it before, "God's always talking, but we're not always listening." Sometimes we can hear God clearly and we still don't get it right. The moment we understand what God wants us to do, suddenly everyone and everything around us requires our time and attention. We become distracted and lose sight of the big picture; doing what "we" want to do instead of what "He" told us to do. If we know what God wants us to do, we are to set our sights resolutely toward that goal "with full determination" in order to accomplish it. Our resolve to go where God is leading us ought to be evident to those around us. And we should beware of becoming so sidetracked by the opportunities around us that we lose sight of His ultimate goal for us. We cannot succumb to the temptation to delay our obedience or discard it altogether. Once we have received a clear assignment from God, our response should be unwavering obedience! We may fall short...but we have to try.

Luke 9:51
Now it came to pass, when the time had come for Him to be received up, that He steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem.

Daily Word: Will you wait for God's wisdom before you make a decision?

The world is full of so-called "experts." They're everywhere and they want to convince us of the wisdom of their opinion. They feel that if they are loud enough, then they must be right. But, God says it's not the one who declares his viewpoint the loudest who is wisest...it's the one who is vindicated over time. Wisdom is proven over time, not by argument or debate. The end result of a practice proves its validity, not how loudly it's promoted. Oftentimes we are criticized by those who disagree with the wisdom of our actions. And our immediate response is to vindicate ourselves. However, if we wait patiently, time will reveal the wisdom of our actions far better than we could through arguing. If we base our life choices on the Word of God, time will eventually be our defender. And if we find that we were wrong, we need to ask God's forgiveness and await further instructions from Him. Then obey those instructions and watch Him confirm His wisdom in our lives.

Luke 7:35
But wisdom is justified by all her children.

Daily Word: God has a purpose for my life!

Repeat after me: God has kept me here for a reason. I am not a mistake. My life is not meaningless. I have survived because He has a plan for me. I may not be able to see it right now, but it is already written. And it will come to pass. Regardless of all the lies, the bad relationships, the evil and negativity, the losses of homes, cars and jobs, the deaths of my loved ones, the back stabbing from my friends, or the lack of support...I made it because I am blessed! Today, I release and let go of all past hurts, misunderstandings and grudges...because I am blessed!! I now recognize them as the illusions they are. God is all there is. All else is a lie!!! So give yourself a big hug, wipe your tears away and walk in victory. Be blessed and know that you are at one with THE SPIRIT OF THE LIVING GOD.

Genesis 31:49 May the Lord keep watch between you and me when we are away from each other.

Reggie Bush inspires many by inspiring one!

I browse different blogs from time to time and came across a blog post that Bossip.com posted today that I found very inspiring. The title of the post was just as intriguing as the pictures; "Bush has a new BFF." The little girl in the picture with Bush is a 5 year old, named Anna, who is battling cancer. It's just amazing to me because it almost always seems like the people suffer the most have the most joy. Reading and seeing things like this takes me to a place of humility and contentment. The pastor of my church preached and taught on "The Secret of Content." Very powerful and inspiring!

Bossip.com wrote:
Reggie Bush teamed up with St. Jude’s Cancer Research Hospital to do a TV spot and gained a new best friend. Her name is Anna and she’s battling cancer at the age of 5.

Here’s what Reggie Tweeted:
"It’s very humbling to see a little 5 year old girl with so much pride and joy at a tough time in her life! She definitely taught me a lot!"

Hopefully, Reggie keeps in touch with Anna because it seems that she made more of an impression on him than he did on her.

Daily Word: God Is In Control!

God is in control of all things, but He leaves a lot of the major choices up to us. We can either listen to Him and obey His commandments or we can disobey Him and suffer repeated defeat. It's a simple choice really. If we walk with Him, in obedience, He will stand with us and ensure victory over our challenges. However, if we choose to disassociate from God and go our own way, we will be overtaken by strife and difficulties. There will always be obstacles and problems we must face in this life. But God promises us victory if we remain in His will.

Deuteronomy 7:28
The Lord will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways...

Daily Word: Straddling the fence?

Satan will do his best to convince us that we can do things in secret that will never be revealed. But we know better than that. Because the Bible teaches us that everything done in darkness will one day be brought to light. Even if no one on earth ever finds out, God saw us, He knows exactly what we did and He will hold us accountable for our actions EVERY TIME! Still some of us have become so alienated from God that even knowing this doesn't deter us from sinful behavior. But God promises that He will publically expose our sin so that we must give an account to others for our actions. And ultimately, everything we do will be exposed on judgment day anyway. But in this life, we need to decide whether we're going to walk in the darkness or in the light. Because you can't be "kinda" pregnant, you can't be"kinda"anything and you cannot have one foot in hell and the other in Heaven.

Luke 8:17
"For nothing is secret that will not be revealed, nor anything hidden that will not be known and come to light."

Guess Who's the 2009-2010 Miss Hampton University

Subject:Hampton University
To:President Barack Obama

October 11, 2009

Aloha Mr. Obama!

My name is Nikole Churchill, a senior nursing major at Hampton University. This past Friday October 9, 2009, I was honored to be crowned Miss Hampton University 2009-2010. It truly was the best night of my life! With that being said, I am sad to say…… that my crowning was not widely accepted and many negative comments regarding my win have been shared throughout my campus.

It would be much easier to say that possibly some were not accepting of the news because I wasn’t the most qualified contestant; however, the true reason for the disapproval was because of the color of my skin. I am not African-American. Despite the unfortunate beliefs that some are saying I should not have won, I am desperately trying to focus on those who believe in me and support me and my goal to represent this beautiful, multicultural campus the very best way that I can. I would love your help!

I am hoping that perhaps you would be able to make an appearance to my campus, Hampton University, so that my fellow Hamptonians can stop focusing so much on the color of my skin and doubting my abilities to represent, but rather be proud of the changes our nation is making towards accepting diversity. People are even nicknaming me, “lil Obama” because of various reasons. This is truly an honor as well!

I am also from Hawaii (Wahiawa) and I am hoping that you can assist me in opening some closed minds and help share some aloha spirit throughout my campus. I feel as though you could relate to my situation, which is why I immediately wanted to contact you. I was interviewed last night at the HU vs. HU football game by news channel 13 and I mentioned how individuals such as you and myself are making changes in hopes people can stop placing so much focus on our skin color by letting that define what we can, cannot, should, and/or should not do. Dr. Harvey welcomed me last night to the family with open arms and I was beyond honored when he told me that he is behind me 100%. I am proud to represent Hampton University and I am so proud having you to represent our home, our country. Your support with my crowning as Miss Hampton University 2009-2010 would be graciously appreciated. Please reply, I will be looking forward to it!

Daily Word: Redefining the Good Life

The condition of our hearts is proven by the way we live our lives. It's evident in our attitudes, our words and our behavior. If our vision is hindered by selfishness and sinful behavior, our judgment will be cloudy. We will not see ourselves or others properly. We may never be perfect in this life, but if our hearts are pure, then we will approach life without malice. We will "be" good and be able to "see" the good in others as well. That's not to say we will be naive or gullible, but we will seek good instead of evil an negativity. When our hearts are defiled, we will be corrupt and everything around us will seem corrupt as well. We will assume the motives of others are evil, simply because our motives are suspect. Basically it's like this, if you live a "good" life, good people will be drawn to you and you will find yourself at peace in spite of your surroundings. However, if you live a sinful life, you will be drawn to evil people and evil things. And you will be surrounded by constant turmoil and calamity. The choice is yours, you make the call.

Titus 1:15

To the pure all things are pure, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; even their mind and conscience are defiled.

Daily Word: We need GOD!

Patience...it's not the easiest thing in the world to master. It's hard to be patient when you want more, know you can do more, know that you can be more. Patience means awaiting God's time without doubting His love. Just because God doesn't give us what we want when we want it or when we decide we're ready, doesn't mean it isn't coming. It simply means not yet or not right now or you're not quite ready yet. We forget that God sees the big picture, while we can only see what's in front of us. And let's be honest, most of the time our views are narrow-minded, self-centered and self serving. We're not intentionally trying to side step God or ignore Him. We truly believe we are ready and we're so anxious to get to the next level that it's hard to be patient. What we don't realize is, we may not be as prepared as we think we are because we have "no idea" what lies ahead....That's why we need God!

Hebrews 13:5 God Himself has said , "I will never leave you nor forsake you."

Watch The Company You Keep

Not everyone you encounter is your friend. Even if someone does something nice for you, that does not mean that they have your best interest at heart. You can't teach, reach, lead everyone. There will be a few that you will just have to keep in prayer and pray that they come to the truth.

In saying that, please don't entertain foolishness. Just because it's not a sin doesn't mean it's good for you. There is a thing called a weight, weights bring you down. Remember that God can use you to bless anyone and He can also use them to bless you. Like I say in my email signature, "If you walk away feeling you've learned absolutely nothing, know that you've taught someone something!" That simply means not all lessons are for you.

God can give you something that is sooo small to you but mean the world to someone else. He brings people in our path for us to teach and learn from, just as He does for others. So don't think that you are to reach everyone. He reaches them, you just do your duty and spread the good news and stay away from the weights and wrong doers. Two people on opposite sides of the fence can not share the same space for long and still have opposing views. At some point one will rub off on the other.

If it is meant for you to entertain foolishness, GOD will call you to do so. He must call us to do certain things otherwise we will fall into the traps of satan.

Only a few can go to the clubs to find and save souls, only a few can stand and preach the gospel on the corner, only a few can do missionary work in Iraq. We cannot choose ourselves.

Let Him lead you. He will tell you if you should play with dirt, otherwise it will only get into your eyes.
