I can count on both hands the number of days that I haven't eaten rice and I've been here in Korea for nearly 7 months. It's funny. I've heard many jokes about Asians and how much they eat rice but I always figured them to be exaggerations and/or stereotypes. Oh boy! How I was surprisingly mistaken. Remember the movie, Forrest Gump, there was a black character who's name was Bubba who loved shrimp. He knew and experienced the many ways shrimp could be prepared. Well, that's how I began to feel after a few of months. I've eaten rice this way, that way, in the morning, at lunch, during brunch, for dinner, and for desert. Naturally, I questioned how healthy or unhealthy it was to eat rice everyday.
Rice fits the healthy eating profile as it :-)
- contains virtually no fat and no cholesterol
- contains fibre
- contains little natural salt (although often added in cooking)
- is gluten free and so is a useful food for Coeliacs Disease
- is a satisfying food yet contains few calories
- is easily digested -suitable for the very young and elderly
- does not contribute to tooth decay
- is a relatively inexpensive food product
- basis of a satisfying nutritive low cost meal

I was on YouTube the other day and I did a search on Asians and rice jokes. Watch this video! It's stupid but funny.
