Seeing as though basketball isn't the most popular sport here in Korea, I figured I would go to a game and see how different it is in Korea as oppose to a game in the states. Well, the biggest difference I found and loved was the fact that the tickets to the games were ONLY 7000 Korean Won. That is on $7 for a ticket to a professional basketball game. And the seats were great. THAT"S CRAZY!!! I'm lovin' it. I went to the game with a co-worker from the states. We were amazed at the differences. First off, there weren't as many people in attendance in comparison to a game in the states, obviously. But secondly, the home section had it's own "Hype Man." There was a Korean guy that stood on a platform and his primary objective was to get the crowd into the game. I could not understand a word this man was saying. Of course, because it was in Korean, right?! Exactly!! So I'm sittin' there tryin to enjoy the game and this guy has choreographed moves to get the people all excited about the home team losin'. He had signs that he pulled out of nowhere. When the home team didn't have the ball, he would hold up this sign that would be perfect if it wasn't spelled wrong. This simple man (me laughing while typing) had a sign that said, "DEFENCE." And he's just'a wavin' it all around yellin, "DEFENCE, DEFENCE, DEFENCE!!!"
Now keep in mind that in the Korean language, there is no "F" or even the "F sound." So this dude is trottin' back and forth on that platform, shouting what sounds like, DEPENCE, DEPENCE, DEPENCE!!!" It was hilarious. And might I add PRICELESS.
